Aside from genetics, one’s skincare regimen especially for women my age is a significant factor. But truth be told, a huge part of it is genetics, and if you’re not particularly blessed with clear, flawless skin and have undereye darkness to deal with like I do, then that’s what a good base and concealer are for. The best foundation in my book is one that is hardly detectable, one that gives off a healthy, natural-looking glow. Also, it looks weird because their faces do not seem to belong to their bodies and it is certainly not a sight to behold! When someone wears foundation that is much lighter than her skin, it looks ashy, and therefore, unhealthy. This is a make-up mistake that I simply find difficult to ignore, for the sole reason that it looks unnatural. In a culture where a great majority of the population exalts fair, “mestiza” (white) skin, I oftentimes see women wear foundation (both liquid and powder) that’s about one or two shades lighter than their skin tone. The topic of choosing the right foundation is a complex one and deserves some discussion.
